What a lovely time we had catching up with Geoff's cousins and their families.
First, we went to All Souls, Langham Place to celebrate Easter. I always think this church is a little touch of Heaven. It is packed with people from every corner of the globe, all ages, colours and walks of life. The music was as amazing as always. It is so inspiring to be singing with an orchestra with more than 500 people singing at the top of their voices. The message was about the disciples' despondency over Jesus' death and the perception that their hopes of Jesus was the Messiah were crushed contrasted with their realisation that Jesus had risen and they understood that all he had predicted had come true.
As this service came out another one was starting. I think they have three similar size services each week. It is interesting considering we live what is called a post Christian Era. P
After the service a nice woman overheard Geoff and I 'debating' whether to have our photo taken outside the church as he always wants to do when we visit (so embarrassing!) and offered her services.
After church we went for coffee at Pret a Manger. Lost the battle to have an almond croissant and sat at the window watching London stream by. I didn't know why Londoners seems so much more interesting than people at home but they are.
We made our way then to meet Cousin Sue and husband Brian at the Queens Head at Crouch Head for a drink before meeting Janet and family for lunch. It was great to catch up. I even learnt the meaning of the word 'posh' from Brian which I never knew before- the word comes from the first letters of the phrase "port out, starboard home," which designated the most desirable accommodations on a steamship voyage from England to India and back. How cool is that!
We had the best roast dinner for lunch. Cousin Janet had made roast turkey with all the trimmings and Sue and Annette had made yummy desserts. The afternoon/ evening went really quickly with lots of taking, laughing and family history exchanges. We meant to take a photo this time but once again totally forgot. I hope we can catch up again with this side of the family.
