With Kerry still sick Geoff is back in London knocking items off the 'bucket list ' this time the Victoria and Albert Museum and the science museum.
The museum precinct is very impressive with 3 major museums and many more impressive buildings. I didn't go to the natural history museum here is a photo of the outside.
The V and A has been described as a handbag due to the amount and range of exhibits - clothing jewellery to ancient statues and relics from every day life. There are huge gallery's filled with plaster casts of the worlds best sculptures there for those who would never see see the real thing while only made out of plaster they look like the original.
The cafe is amazing lots of different food choices from different chefs . This is one of the dining areas including a man playing a grand piano I was lucky enough to have a man sit next to me who was having a robust discussion with himself.
Walking to the science museum damage to the building from the war was a clear reminder how much this non strategic area of London was still a target.
Nice to see surveyors and map makers of the past get a mention when I started work the equipment was not much different to that shown but the change over my work life to satellites ,laser scanning and digital mapping is amazing to look back on.
This half mini still looks drivable
Jet turbine Rover what happened to the Land Rover version
The museum has moved with the times, as a child in the 50s I remembered pushing buttons to make steam machines work now everywhere there are interactive touch screens. The displays covered from earliest steam engines to the latest computers and space vehicles.
