Changing of the guard

Today we decided it was time to Finally see this ceremony. We got to the palace fairly early but it was already quite packed. We managed to get a side position and waited.

The Hussars arrived first.

Before long we were being pushed and shoved by noisy French schoolchildren which did tend to detract from watching this time honoured ceremony.

Finally the soldiers arrived in their Grenadier guard uniforms and 2 royal bands. It took an hour and I am not sure what it all represented but it was an impressive sight.

The bands played a medley from James Bond scores which would have been great but the crowd was making so much noise talking it was rather spoilt.

We decided to make a hasty retreat when they had finished so we could see them March back up the Mall.

It was a sight. All dignity went out of the window as we ended up jogging alongside all the way back to St James Palace where they fell out. Embarrassing but fun!

We walked back to Covent Gardens and on the way we saw.....Kensington Palace,
Statues of The Queens parents.
Royal Society, England's Academy of Science.
Privy Council and then through Admiralty Arch and Trafalger Square.

After lunch and a visit to the famous Stanford Map shop we headed off on the train to see my new 4th cousin Ernest at Dorking. Lovely to see Alexa and lovely Ernest. He was so cute.

Then it was back to Stratford for Curry Night at Wetherspoons!
