Mills and Wars

Patrick and Margaret leave us to our devices.

Kerry is still very sick so it was an in and out day for Geoff

First was a local tour on Patrick's Brompton fold up bike.

Stratford where we are staying is an ancient area on a Roman Road, the river Lea and a major Victorian rail and industrial centre servicing London. I visited the 3 mills complex where records show milling has been carried out for 1000 years the current buildings date to the 17 th century . Continuing along the banks of the Lea I went over locks and bridges to the Lime house cut the towpath got very narrow I was concerned that I would end up in the canal so retraced my route back to the mills then to the Abbey mills pumping station. Unfortunately I could only look at it form a distance as it is beautiful building which is amazing for a sewage pumping station. The Victorians knew how to impress.

In the afternoon I went to the Imperial War Museum covered the period from the 1st World War to the present. Clearly set out but very sad, full of school children.

I have one of these boxes from an ancestor
