Boating and walking on Windemere

Bowness on Windemere.

Today we awoke to rain which continued for most of the morning. So we kitted up in spray pants and jackets and walking boots and set off to the lake.

We caught the boat to Amber. And had a hot chocolate while we waited for our next little ferry to go to Wray Castle.

Despite the rain the scenery was still amazing.

Wray castle was only built in the 1840's and was only lived in for a few decades. It was then used for various other purposes until it was sold to the National Trust. It was interesting in that each room although mostly empty, gave you an idea of what the room had been used for. Gave you some understanding of the layout of a Dowton Abbey type of house.

Then we walked along the edge of the lake for 8kms. By now the sun was coming and going and the rain has stopped.

After the 8 kms we caught another little ferry back to where we had started.
